THE HISTORY OF THE

BRASSERIE & BAR LE CHAT NOIR

Located in the lively Pigalle district, next to the Moulin Rouge, Le Chat Noir was one of the first avant-garde cabaret restaurants to open in the Montmartre area of Paris in 1881.

The Belle Époque and the Art Nouveau movement were a time of indulgence and uninhibited beauty.
The Chat Noir cabaret in Pigalle was the place to be for those who wanted to experience the avant-garde lifestyle.

It was the first of its kind to bring together people from all social classes in their quest for pleasure.
The cabaret was a place of creativity as well as collaboration, where all art forms came together to create a unique experience.

The cabaret's name was inspired by a mystical Black Cat found on the site during its construction!
Here are some original photos of Le Chat Noir from the 1920s, taken on our current location at 68, boulevard de Clichy, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.
